Towards Independent Practice offers clinical psychotherapy supervision as part of the suite of services and training available to new graduates. We can support your journey to becoming a Registered Psychotherapist at the College of Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario (CRPO).
Becoming A Registered Psychotherapist at CRPO
The journey to becoming a registered psychotherapist is an exciting moment of time for new therapists. It can also be a little bit daunting as there are so many rules and regulations that new therapists must meet. We are excited to support you on this journey and want to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible.
Becoming a Registered Psychotherapist at the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) in Ontario begins as a Qualifying Member (RP).
As a qualifying member of CRPO, a graduate psychotherapist is required to get one hour of clinical supervision per four to five hours of client contact time. Therefore, if your regular psychotherapy sessions are one hour each, you must have one hour's supervision after seeing four or five clients.
That might sound like a lot of supervision, but supervision is actually incredibly helpful for new therapists who need support and guidance. The average graduate psychotherapist in Ontario will require regular weekly supervision until they have become a registered psychotherapist with the CRPO.
Once registered, supervision drops to one hour of clinical supervision after ten client contact hours, and this must continue until 1000 hours of client contact hours have been reached.
Supervision is a big part of a new graduate's working life and Towards Independent Practice from TSIO makes it incredibly easy to access the supervision you need.
CRPO Clinical Supervision Forms
There are different forms of psychotherapy supervision required by CRPO, and Towards Independent Practice offers the full range of options. All applicants to CRPO must complete at least 50 percent of their supervision hours in individual or dyadic forms, and the other 50 percent can be in group form.
